kWh cost calculator: turn energy use into a price

If your meter or energy label gives you kWh, multiply that energy by your electricity unit price. You do not need to convert it back into watts.

The calculation

cost = energy in kWh × price per kWh

For example, 2 kWh at an illustrative price of 0.25 per kWh costs 0.50 currency units. A total of 100 kWh at that same price costs 25.00. These are examples, not current tariffs.

Per cycle or per day?

A reading of 2 kWh for one washing or drying cycle describes that cycle only. Ten identical cycles use 20 kWh. A reading covering a full day already includes all usage during that day: do not multiply it by the number of operating hours again.

Use the calculator correctly

  1. Select Measured kWh.
  2. Enter energy for one day or one session and your price per kWh.
  3. Under More options, set days / sessions to the number you want to total.

The Day, Month and Year projections assume that entered energy is used every day. For occasional cycles, use the selected days / sessions total instead.

Does this equal my whole bill?

This estimates the energy charge. Add fixed charges separately. If different units have different prices, calculate each group at its own rate and add the costs.
