Dehumidifier running cost calculator
A dehumidifier’s litres-per-day rating is not its electricity consumption. Start with the input power in watts or measure a full session in kWh. Humidity, temperature and automatic cycling all affect the result.
Calculate dehumidifier costs ↗Start with your actual usage
- Look for input power in watts on the manual or rating label.
- For humidistat-controlled operation, use measured average draw or adjust active time.
- For laundry drying, enter the hours needed for one load and set the period to one day.
A worked example
The following uses an illustrative rate of 0.25 currency units per kWh. It is not a current country tariff or a measured average for this appliance.
| Input / result | Example |
|---|---|
| Average input power | 250 W |
| Daily use | 8 hours |
| Energy per day | 2 kWh |
| Cost per day | 0.50 currency units |
| Cost for 30 days | 15.00 currency units |
What this estimate leaves out
250W is an example. Compressor, fan and defrost cycles change consumption; measured energy is more accurate. Fixed charges are excluded. Time-of-use rates and tiered pricing need separate calculations. Annual results assume the same daily use for all 365 days, which can overstate seasonal appliance use.
How to calculate it yourself
watts ÷ 1,000 × hours × price per kWhIf you already know the energy used, multiply measured kWh directly by your unit price. See the full methodology.
